TOURISM QUALITY PLAN OF SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

In recent years, tourists have become mature, demanding clients, who are not only looking for a good price but also value for money. This, along with the need for keeping up with the changes taking place in the tourist sector and the search for destination excellence, led to Santiago de Compostela requesting, in 2001, to become a Pilot Destination of the System of Spanish Tourism Quality in Destinations (SICTED). This is a project promoted by the State Secretariat for Tourism and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, which currently features the participation of 237 destinations throughout Spain.

SICTED involves the introduction of a system of good practices aimed at the majority of subsectors and services related to tourism, for which manuals were prepared for each of the 36 types of companies and services:

  • Travel agencies
  • Hostels
  • Rural accommodation
  • Artisans
  • Cruise and ferry jetties
  • Bars and Cafeterias
  • Wineries
  • Campsites
  • Golf and Pitch&Putt courses
  • Shops
  • Convention Bureaux
  • Protected nature reserves
  • Other services
  • PCOs
  • Citizen safety
  • Cleaning services
  • Beaches
  • Taxis
  • Wellbeing tourism
  • Tourist transport companies
  • Vehicle and boat rental companies
  • Tourist Guides
  • Active tourism companies
  • Hotels and holiday apartments
  • Restaurants and tourist catering companies
  • Marinas

  • Leisure parks
  • Ski and mountain resorts
  • Museums and visitable tourist sites

As a result of SICTED’s introduction to Santiago de Compostela, in December 2021, 108 establishments/services were certified as companies and services committed to tourism quality in Santiago de Compostela.
